Welcome to MCCM – About Me

Welcome to Mary Campbell Case Management. (MCCM),  An independent case management company with a main objective to provide quality case management services to clients who have sustained catastrophic spinal cord and brain injuries.
I am a qualified Occupational Therapist, graduating from the University of Liverpool in 2001, with a BSc (hons).
I am passionate about case management because I enjoy supporting individuals and their families through the rehabilitation process, I find it rewarding with no two days the same. I was initially introduced to rehabilitation at a young age. My brother sustained a brain injury after contracting meningitis as a baby, his resilience and my parents’ strength has been an inspiration to me.
Also, when I was a teenager my mother was involved in a road traffic collision which resulted in a life changing spinal injury.
These experiences shaped my career path as a Specialist Neurological Occupational Therapist within the NHS and then a Brain injury Case Manager within litigation. I have been a Brain injury case manager since 2007, I have worked professionally under the surname Campbell and MacNamara, recently returning to my maiden name. More recently I have spent time living overseas, in Melbourne Australia and then Boston, MA, USA. I now lives back on the Wirral, where I grew up, with my 3 children and the family dog. I enjoy keeping fit regularly attending the gym but also playing touch rugby a couple of times a week at the local rugby club.

What is Case Management?
Following an injury it is likely an individual will be introduced to a case manager via a solicitor, there will often be a few to choose from. A case manager will have a professional background including Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Speech and Language therapy and Physiotherapy. Each case manager has their own particular areas of expertise which may include brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputees etc. They often have experience of working with either adults or children and young people.
The case manager’s role includes the co-ordination of services required to meet the injured individuals needs, and support for their family. This involves offering support and providing close liaison with the wider team of professionals. The case manager should be a skilled communicator, promote teamwork and use available resources to promote quality and cost effective outcomes. It is usual that a case manager will not only have their own professional registration but they will also be registered with CMSUK or BABICM.
This is a more formal definition of case management:
“Case Management is a collaborative process which: assesses, plans, implements, co-ordinates, monitors and evaluates the options and services required to meet an individual’s health, social care, educational and employment needs, using communication and available resources to promote quality cost effective outcomes.” CMSUK Definition of Case management.
